Rules and Expectations

  • Homework must be completed per homework policy.
  • Students must read the books at home -- they cannot hope to do well without reading them. Books will not be read in class.
  • Students are expected to be organised. We will not be replacing lost handouts. Get them photocopied from a friend.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to see teachers outside of class for extra assistance or to catch up after absences.
  • Have an English folder with loose leaf paper, dividers and plastic pockets. All sections will be added to throughout the course.
  • Do not throw handouts away. They are valuable revision resources and will not be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if my English teacher is absent?
Your English teacher will assign you to join another English class (all English classes are timetabled in the same block). You are expected to be present in your reallocated class in the event that your teacher is absent on the day. If you do not attend, you will be marked as absent.

What happens if I have to leave class for Peer Support, Instrumental Music, etc.?
You must notify your teacher of your absence beforehand if possible. Absences due to school programs do not count against you. However, it is up to you to see your teacher for work or ask another student to collect work for you.

What should I do if I miss a SAC?
If you miss a SAC due to illness or absence, you must provide a medical certificate or else you will not be allowed to sit the SAC. It is up to you to arrange a time to complete the SAC with your teacher.

What happens if I don't do a SAC?
All SACs must be completed in order to receive an S for your overall unit result. If you do not complete all of your SACs or sit the exam, you are at risk of failing the subject, which in turn may impact on your satisfactory completion of Year 11.

Can I bring a cheat sheet?
You are allowed to bring in a one-sided page of handwritten notes for most SACs, although you should verify with your teacher beforehand. Cheat sheets should be dot point notes (large chunks of pre-written or typed notes are not allowed). Note that a cheat sheet is not allowed in the exam.
